Hadas Makias, mother of Ella Makias

Mother: Hadas Makias

Daughter: Ella Makias, aged 26 at the time of her death

Family: Ella has two sisters from her father and four sisters from my partner's previous marriage. Ella moved with me to Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak when she was 9 years old.

Moments of Terror: On Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., I spoke with Ella, and she told me everything was fine and that she would keep me updated. About an hour later, she sent her location to her father and said she was in a tent and could only hear voices speaking Arabic. At the same time, she sent a WhatsApp message to her friends, saying she was seriously injured. For hours, I didn’t know where she was or what had happened to her, so I called every hospital in the country. At 9:00 p.m., she was identified by her tattoo. She arrived in critical condition in intensive care and underwent surgery on her head and leg. She fought for her life for three weeks but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

The Person Behind the Story: Ella was a child of giving, a child of love who left her mark wherever she went. She was always surrounded by friends who received her wholehearted generosity and love. Whenever she visited the kibbutz, the house was filled with friends, laughter, and shared meals. For the past two years, Ella lived and worked in Jaffa.

Ella always smiled and was always ready to help. She loved animals and children very much and was supposed to start studying nursing in October. When she was in the kibbutz, she worked in education, and anyone who met her fell in love with her and her immense generosity.

Ella was a sporty person; she was very involved in martial arts and was part of an MMA club. After the army, she did Pilates almost every day. Additionally, she loved to travel both in Israel and around the world. Despite her young age, she had visited many places, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, India, and more.

Our Last Embrace: On Yom Kippur, when she came to visit the kibbutz.
